Experience
I currently work as an English teacher at a very successful secondary school and our English department has set a precedent for high achievement, acting as a Lead Department sharing exemplary teaching practice with schools across Sheffield. As part of this team, I have been involved in organising and implementing Transition Schemes to support pupils in the move from Junior Schools to Secondary, liasing with feeder schools, presenting literacy workshops and planning schemes of work. My participation in the 'New Framework for Literacy' has provided me with the opportunity to assess specific learning needs in pupils, developing Guided Reading strategies and Preferred Learning Styles to focus pupils on the most effective learning approach for their individual achievement. In my previous role as Head of Key Stage 3, I developed schemes of work to promote the inclusion of S.E.N. pupils in a mixed ability teaching environment and focus on addressing the underachievement of B.M.E. pupils through the integration of multicultural resources and schemes of work into the curriculum. My involvement in a recent literacy initiative has given me the opportunity to work with students on an individual basis, raising their attainment dramatically in some cases. This has highlighted to me that some students, who may be unsuited to large classes, flourish with one-to-one tuition proving it to be a rewarding experience for both teacher and student. I would like to offer a free 1 hour initial consultation and assessment, followed by a 10 session commitment to raising literacy attainment/exam skills. I charge £20ph for KS3 and £25ph for English Language GCSE tuition.
